Aromatherapy has been used for over 6,000 years for a variety of medical and psychological benefits. For many the clean fresh smell of a single variety of essential oil provides a soothing scent or topical application that makes a real difference to their quality of life. For others, half the fun of working with and enjoying essential oils is in the experimental mixing of various types of oils to achieve that perfect balance which sooths both body and soul.
If you feel that you would benefit from mixing essential oils to achieve that balance what sorts of essential oils have been shown to complement each other – and what sort of effects would you enjoy from combining the oils?
Here are a few ideas to get you started.
1. A daily dose of alertness.
A very simple mixture of two drops of Wild Orange essential oil combined with another two drops of Peppermint essential oil will provide a pick me up that will leave you refreshed and ready to take on the stress of modern life.
2. Make your House into A Home.
This mixture is ideal for use with either cold or warm diffusers. It creates an atmosphere that simply invites visitors, friends and family to relax in your home. The bright scent highlights list your home to fresh new heights. Take 2 drops of lavender essential oil and mix with 2 drops of lemon essential oil. If you want added welcoming notes then include 2 drops of Rosemary essential oil.
3. The Odour Eliminator.
If you have pets or smokers in the house you’ll know that unpleasant odours can be a problem. This mixture will deal with that problem in next to no time – and cost a fraction of store bought odour eaters. Take 2 drops of Lemon essential oil, mix with a single drop of Cilantro oil, 1 drop of Lime essential oil. For added potency a drop of Melaleuca oil can be added.
4. Healthy Winter Mix.
Almost all of us suffer from a stuffy head during the cooler times of the year or when the dreaded pollen season comes around. Using this mixture in the home will help alleviate those symptoms. 2 Drops of Lavender essential oil, 2 drops of Lemon essential oil and two drops of Peppermint will clear up that stuffy head and help you to enjoy the wonders of Mother Nature once again.
5. The Calming Mixture.
Sometimes you just need to take a step back and calm down. This is something that we all have to do to cope with our fast-paced modern world. This mixture will help you to take a deep breath and take stock of exactly where you stand. 1 Drop of Bergamot essential oil and 1 drop of Patchouli essential oil and a single drop of Ylang Ylang essential oil. This is ideal for those evenings when you want to shrug off the cares of the world.
